Volunteer Terms and Conditions
Please read carefully before applying.
1. The volunteer relationship
As an Alder Health Foundation volunteer, you generously give your time to support our mission. Volunteering with Alder does not create an employment relationship. Volunteers are not entitled to compensation, wages, benefits, or reimbursement except where expressly agreed in writing in advance.
2. WorkSafeBC protection
Alder Health Foundation takes your safety seriously. Volunteers are covered under WorkSafeBC while performing authorized volunteer duties. If you are injured while volunteering, notify your volunteer supervisor immediately so the incident can be documented and reported.
3. Conduct expectations
Our volunteers represent Alder in the community. We expect every volunteer to:
- Be kind, respectful, and accepting — of fellow volunteers, staff, partners, and every community member we serve, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance.
- Prioritize safety — follow all training guidelines, use equipment properly, and never attempt tasks beyond your training.
- Communicate reliably — show up when you commit, or give as much notice as possible if you can't.
- Protect dignity — maintain appropriate boundaries and safeguard the privacy of the people we serve.
Behaviour that is harassing, discriminatory, unsafe, or otherwise inconsistent with these expectations may result in the end of the volunteer relationship.
4. Intellectual property
Anything you create in the course of volunteering with Alder — including but not limited to teaching materials, written content, photographs, video, designs, and curriculum — is the property of Alder Health Foundation. By volunteering, you assign all rights in such work to Alder, and agree to sign any documents reasonably required to give effect to this assignment. Work you created independently, outside your volunteer role, remains yours.
5. Confidentiality
Volunteers may encounter non-public information about Alder's operations, partners, or community members. Please keep such information confidential and do not share it outside Alder without permission.
6. Ending the volunteer relationship
Either you or Alder may end the volunteer relationship at any time, for any reason. Alder may also reassign volunteer roles as programs evolve.
7. Acceptance
By ticking the acceptance checkbox on the volunteer application form, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Volunteer Terms and Conditions.
